A Mile Away

Bucharest the capital of Romania

Bucharest is the capital and largest city of Romania, as well as its cultural, industrial, and financial centre. It is located in the southeast of the country.

Bucharest was first mentioned in documents in 1459. It became the capital of Romania in 1862 and is the centre of Romanian media, culture, and art. In the period between the two World Wars, the city’s elegant architecture and the sophistication of its elite earned Bucharest the nickname of ‘Paris of the East’ or ‘Little Paris’.

The Palace of the Parliament

The Palace has a height of 84 metres, a floor area of 365,000 square metres and a volume of 2,550,000 cubic metres. The Palace of the Parliament is the heaviest building in the world, weighing about 4,098,500,000 kilograms.
A colossal building, designed and supervised by chief architect Anca Petrescu (1949–2013), with a team of approximately 700 architects, and constructed over a period of 13 years (1984–97)

In Bucharest it is very easy to move because it is well served by public transport, tram, metro. There is also a plenty of choice of all kinds of restaurants. For those who want to try the Romanian cuisine with typical dishes I recommend such as Mici (which are small sausage of pork and beef, especially with spicy garlic), and Ciorba de Burta (a soup made with calf sweetbreads), Sarmale, Papanas etc.

There are many museums, parks (Herastrau) and shopping centers. I strongly recommend to visit Museum Antipa for natural history lovers!
