A Mile Away

Corvin Castle

🏰Welcome to Transylvania! We had the pleasure to visit the Castle of Hunedoara (Corvin Castle), a historically significant place located in the city of Hunedoara. Corvin Castle was laid out in 1446, when construction began on the orders of Voivode of Transylvania Iancu or Ioan de Hunedoara.

When you go to Romania, one of the main things you want to see are the castles. We visited three of the castles: Corvin Castle, Peles Castle and the famous Bran Castle. Corvin Castle starts out wonderfully exciting with your first glimpse of the outside of this great medieval castle with all of the bells and whistles one would describe of its architecture and stonework. Before you go inside, take a picture with the castle behind you. I just loved roaming around every space here, large and small, up and down, everywhere where we looked, was an interesting adventure. It is really a great example of what you want to see when you explore a medieval castle. We really took some great pictures.

The castle sits on a hill outside of the city of Hunedoara – it has an outer courtyard where you enter first, after that you get to the cashier booth where you pay the entrance fee – about 8 euro/person (they also accept cards). As you enter into the castle through the main gate you will have on the right and the left sides entrances to the dungeon and to the torture room.

As you move there are signs on the walls getting you from one point to the other inside the castle.

It is interesting – a lot of boards inside in Romanian and English tell you about the what and where of the castle – pity is that there is no audio tour available. If you can get a guided tour here to get more insights. It would be great for sure. The castle is well preserved and it is worth seeing. Its fame goes to Hollywood also – part 2 of “Ghost Rider” had some scenes filmed in this castle. Also the Dragon Heart movie used this beautiful castle in their scenery.

Overall a great experience for those of you into history, but for the others it is also spectacular – I recommend you visit this place when you have the opportunity is definitely worth it.
