A Mile Away

Parâng and Straja mountains

I had the pleasure to show Alex in December 2019 the beautiful mountains Parâng, a very special place for me. I wanted to share with you this place not just because it is very close to my heart, but also because it is very beautiful. I was born in this region and most of the winter of my childhood, I was training for the ski competitions here. The Parâng Mountains are one of the highest mountain ridges of Romania and the Southern Carpathians, with the highest peak, Parângul Mare, reaching 2,519 m.

The Parâng Mountains are located in the southwestern part of the Central-Meridional Carpathians. In close connection with the relief characteristics of the Parâng mountains, the vegetation is clearly shaped into three layers. The first layer is the broadleaf forest, which starts from the bottom of the mountains and goes as high as 1200m (northern slope) and 1400m (southern slope).

In the winter time Parâng is a great ski resort and in the summer a great place for hiking, climbing and relaxing in the middle of the beautiful nature. There are many slopes for beginners but also for advanced skiers. My favourite slope is the B Slope (black slope). Together with my ski colleagues we trained very hard there for the ski competitions. I have very great memories from the Parâng Mountains and I think is an amazing place!
